Fossil Brewing is now Fossil Craft Beer Company

A few days ago, I noticed that Colorado Springs' very own Fossil Brewing Company will be changing its name to Fossil Craft Beer Company. They changed their profile picture on Facebook to reflect it, but not with any explicit explanation. With the growing number of breweries popping up in the United States, it's almost inevitable that naming conflicts happen.I reached out to Josh and Rich at Fossil to see what prompted the new name. Rich tells me "We've been talking with Fossil Cove Brewing Company and we've decided to change our name to avoid any confusion between the two. Fossil Brewing Company will now be known as Fossil Craft Beer Company. We look forward to unearthing more remarkable beers with our new name!"For those wondering, Fossil Cove Brewing is located in Fayetteville, AR. It seems like both companies saw too much similarity between their names, and even though neither brewery distributes outside of its respective state, it could become an issue in the future. I sent a message to Ben Mills of Fossil Cove for his take, but he declined to comment. So what's to happen with everything that has the old name on it? If you've already bought a shirt or a growler, it's now "limited edition!"According to Josh, "We [Fossil Craft Beer Company] have 18 months to gradually phase out all of the original signage/logos/merch/online content."No matter what Fossil's official name is or isn't, I'll definitely continue to enjoy their beers! I hope you'll join me on Saturday at Fossil's 1st anniversary party!11140031_906470409429944_7727877976209885921_n
