COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo., April 26, 2016 — The Brew Brothers of Pikes Peak, a Colorado Springs-based homebrew club, is partnering with Pikes Peak Brewing Co. in Monument on a creative brewing competition to celebrate National Homebrew Day on Saturday, May 7.
On the morning of May 7, the brewery will produce unfermented Belgian blond wort for club members to transform as they wish. Participating club members will come prepared with 5-gallon fermenting vessels and their choice of yeast and other ingredients such as hops, spices or fruit to convert the wort into customized beers. Participants will present their final products at a June club member’s meeting, where a people’s choice best-in-show winner will be announced.
May 7 was recognized by Congress as National Homebrew Day in 1988. To commemorate the holiday, the American Homebrewers Association created Big Brew as an annual, worldwide celebration of the hobby. Big Brew is held each year on the first Saturday in May and brings together thousands of homebrewers from around the world. This will be the third year that the Brew Brothers club and Pikes Peak Brewing have collaborated for Big Brew.
