There are a handful of festivals that we consider the best of the best here in Colorado, and Big Beers has always sat atop that list year after year. The unique combination of educational seminars, a top-notch ski resort destination and incredible beer makes Big Beers one of the best beer festival experiences we can think of. This year, Laura and her crew are instituting a few changes that will only boost Big Beers to greater heights.

If you haven’t experienced Big Beers or if you’re a seasoned festival-goer, you definitely should be planning on snagging some tickets this time around. Tickets go on sale September 5 at 10am.

Here’s the press release:

Breckenridge, CO – The Big Beers, Belgians and Barleywines Festival, held annually in the Colorado Rocky Mountain ski town of Breckenridge, will sell tickets for its Nineteenth Anniversary Weekend scheduled for January 10 – 12, 2019 on Wednesday, September 5 at 10am MDT. A full weekend of activities featuring outstanding brewers and exceptional beers, the Big Beers Festival has earned numerous accolades including a top ten finish in the USA Today 10Best Beer Festivals contest for two years running.

Delicious double-beer pairing dining events showcasing masterful culinary talent are often the hottest tickets, selling out in seconds every year. Held at various locations throughout Breckenridge, including Beaver Run Resort as event home base for the weekend, these unique experiences offer insight from both Brewmasters and Chefs with regard to flavor creation and combinations. Featuring longstanding Big Beers veterans Avery and Dogfish Head breweries as well as relative newbies like Blackberry Farm, these dinners are not to be missed.

Educational Seminars are offered throughout the weekend, showcasing the talent of both brewers and industry experts on a wide variety of topics.

“Our goal is to offer something for everyone, from the professional brewer and advanced homebrewer to the attendee who is exploring beer for the first time,” says Executive Director, Laura Lodge.

The 2019 schedule makes this clear, offering a sensory exploration with Dr. Nicole Garneau of DraughtLabs, LLC that will teach you “how to taste like a scientist, savor like an artist, and kick back without judgement” alongside “Yeast Health and Viability in High Gravity and Sour Beers” offered by John Giarratano of Inland Island Yeast Co. and his panel of brewers.

By far the largest event, the Commercial Tasting anchors Big Beers Weekend on Saturday afternoon. Spread over two floors of the Beaver Run Conference Center, participants and attendees have the opportunity to sample over 500 big (7% abv or more), Belgian in style, and experimental beers throughout the afternoon. Poured primarily by the brewery owners and brewmasters themselves, these beers are distinguished by their quality, rarity, and/or innovation, causing aficionados from around the country to seek out this tiny festival in the mountains of Colorado.

Tickets will be sold on the Big Beers website, alongside additional information about the 2019 schedule of events, location, lodging, discounted lift tickets and more. For further questions, Lodge can be reached by telephone or email via the Contact Us information on the site.
