Tonight, The Wild Goose Meeting House hosted Todd Baldwin and the beers from Red Leg Brewing! Not only were three of Red Leg’s creations on tap, but two of the three were from the first few batches on their brand spanking new brewhouse. While we haven’t been the biggest fans of the Blue Nose Brown, the batch from the new system really accentuates the smokiness, while keeping it rounded nicely with the malt backbone. It’s going to go back in our Red Leg beer rotation. One of the biggest challenges for a brewery, be it an established one or a brand new one, is consistency. When breweries switch from a small system to a larger system, naturally things can taste different. We’d have to say that Red Leg has easily made their already award-winning beer even better.
While we’re talking about The Wild Goose … that place is really doing a stand up job with bringing in fun and interesting beers to downtown. No longer do we only have Brewer’s Republic and Old Chicago to turn to. Plus, the staff there are always super helpful, providing samples to the undecided, and offering suggestions based on taste preferences. The place is always packed, and to let a local brewery come in and take up 3 tap handles shows their commitment to the local beer community! They brought in Blue Nose Brown, Sgt. Pils, and the 2014 World Beer Cup Bronze medal winning Devil Dog Stout and they’ll be on tap for a little bit. Russ does a great job of rotating the beers, so it’s nice to see Red Leg added to the mix!
Thanks to Todd and Russ for putting this on. It’s great to have local beer on tap anywhere we can get it.
